Music Video Edditing blog

Today we finally finished this hard trial of editing our film and i'm glad we are finally done with this project. It has been over 3 days of editing this footage and each day had its own problems. The first day of editing was a day right after we filmed all of our footage. The whole day we were trying to transfer our footage from Paige's phone to Pinnacle studios. This was a tough problem to solve because nothing was working. At first we tried to transfer the film by Gmail. This didn't work because it couldn't handle transfering all of them at once so we tried doing them one by one we transferred the film one by one and it started going smoothly. Half way through transfering the film  some of shots wouldn't transfer. We spent the rest of the period trouble shooting on how to fix this problem and we asked Ms. Kats and she gave us her flash drive so paige could transfer all of the film at home from her computer to the flashdrive so we can use it at school.
The next day of editing it also had it troubles. Paige and I kept switching back and forth on if we should use the vertical shots and horizontal. At first we were going to do a mix but everything looked garbage. All of our film was filmed in a vertical view and some in horizontal. Paige and I thought that The whole film had to be horizontal so we tried to work that out. We tried to crop out the top of the vertical shots and add borders, but that didn't work that well and left shots janky. With that option not working it left us with two paths. The first was to film the non horizontal shots horizontal, making us film more or just do it all in vertical form. We ended up Choosing the latter, which we are both happy about.
The last day of editing was today which probably had the most frustrating problem. We had to fix a lot of the footage, which was sideways because it transferred wrong from paige's phone. This was the only problem that we were not able to fix. We tried a lot of different ways to change this, in pinnacle studios and outside of pinnacle studios like windows movie editor. All of these did not work and it was very frustrating. Although none of these worked, we tried I-movie and this saved us. None of the transfering problems ever occurred to us when we used I-movie because it was already on paige's phone. It literally took Paige and I about 10 minutes to figure out the app, transfer all of the film and, edit the shot and it was done.

Music Video Filming Blog part 2

We finished filming for our music video about a week ago, but there is still stuff that pertains to filming that we need to do. Half of our shots were filmed vertical, not horizontal. The shots are not supposed to be vertical, because it will look janky when viewing it on a horizontal screen. All of the footage that was filmed vertical was the easiest footage to film, only needing paige and her dog. All of those scenes would probably take from 30-45 minutes to do. So paige decided that she could do all of those scenes, but i didn't agree. I felt really bad about her doing all of those shots by herself, but she made me do another thing. I had to "find" the music for the music video, which is took me less than 2 minutes to "find" the music and download it.
The film that we already filmed before that was horizontal, or that could be changed into a horizontal shot had its problems too. The first problem was that the film wouldn't email from paige's phone. We were using paige's phone in the first place because we forgot to charge the camera. It took awhile for us to try new ways of finding a way to transfer the film. We tried email, which sent half od shots, the others didn't work. Some of the film was to long, and others we couldn't find a reason why they wouldn't go through. We tried google docs, which didn't work as well. Then Ms. Cats came to our rescue.
Ms. Cats offered us to use her flash drive, which saved our skins. I don't have an idea of what we had of done if Ms. Cats didn't offer us the flash drive I wouldn't know what to do. With the flash drive we couldn't use at school. since none of the footage would transfer to the school computers because of the bad school wifi and the bad storage of the school computers. Paige had to transfer the film to the flash drive because she had the film on her phone. Transfering from her phone to her computer was a lot easier from any other methods we have tried to do before.

Music Video Fillming Blog

So we started filming and it was a lot better than the last project. This project we got to do outside of school, which was one of the leading reasons why it was easier. I rode my bike to Paige's house to do our first shot, witch was right on the end of her block. the shot was a simple one, with us using a flyer that had a lost dog, that paige taped onto the street corner pole. the next scene was the one were we set the location of the film. we walked over to harbor island and did the shot in front of the gates that lead into the park. The next shot was introducing paige's dog Evie, with her just wandering around.
The next scene is paige wandering around, trying to find evie. this and most of all of the scenes were all taken multiple times and most of the shots were all different then the last. Most of the time we were just trying new camera movements and angles, and just testing out new stuff. The next shot we have paige and Evie find each other and the shot was a mix of a pan and a over the shoulder.
the next slide was the reunion scene. when we filmed this scene, we actually combined the next scene together when filming because they go back to back on the storyboard and are at the same location. Those 2 shots were made into a pan, that goes left to right, right to left and back to left to right, following paige and evie. For the seventh shot we had paige hook Evie's leash on her collar, it was just a normal shot that was full body. The next shot Evie and paige run at the camera, and the shot is slomo, and it is a low angle
For the next shots we introduced people and dogs other than Paige and Evie. Paige and I got some of our friends that live in our neighborhood and that live near harbor island, were we were filming. We had 4 friends who brought their dogs with them. For the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th scenes we had each of the friends besides one of them who i replaced and held their dogs. for all of those shots it was just full body or just medium close up. After we filmed all of these shots we checked over all of the film and we realized a problem. most of not if all of the footage was filmed as a vertical shot, not horizontal. however i can fix this problem, buts thats for another time.

Music Video Planing Blog

For our music video we will be filming at Harbour Islands Park. This is the ideal location because it has a dog-friendly atmosphere and is close to our houses. The close proximity is helpful so we can go back and forth to our houses to see the footage easily. Also if their is rain or too many people in the park it is easy to go back the next day to film more. When filming we will make sure to keep safety in mind. We are working with well trained dogs that are familiar with the person they are working with so there will be no issues with the dog harming the actors. We will also be cautious of the other people in the park and their dogs. We will wait until they pass to film so that the dogs don't run at each other. We also have many people helping us hold the dogs that are not being filmed so they do not get out of control.

The props we will use are dog leashes, a missing dog flyer, tape and other things for dogs like toys and treats. The dog leashes are important because the plot of our story is that their is a missing dog. When the dog is found we show the dog's leash get put on to show that she is now found. The missing dog flyer and tape is important for setting up the video by telling the audience that the dog is missing. The costumes will be somewhat athletic. It will be what people wear to walk there dogs, shorts and a shirt. This is because there is running scenes so the actors aren't wearing jeans or something else hard to run in. Our costumes will not be any school apparel or obvious brand because this music video is not sponsored and must look professional. We will make sure we wear close-toed shoes so their is not safety issues while running. Overall, our props and costume are very minimal.

Our schedule begins today, 11/18 we will plan our storyboard and create our planning blog today in class. Tomorrow, 11/19 is a white day so we will not work on our music video. 11/20 we will be in class and will create our story board and publish it in a blog. We have no class on 11/21 and have no plans for 11/22 yet. 11/23 is a Saturday, we will begin filming this day. If it was raining or we did not finish we will film more on 11/24. On 11/25 we will individually make our first filming blog, reflecting on the filming done over the weekend. On 11/26 we will work on our project in class. 11/27-12/1 we have thanksgiving break and will not be working on the project. 12/3 is our next class where we will edit. We will continue editing in class on 12/5 and on our last day 12/9 we will add finishing touches and submit the video. On 12/11 in class we will do our individual CCR PowerPoints and will turn them in.

Music Video Research

Today we started our second project and its a music video, since we finished the Nike commercial. The new project is a music video, that is two times as long as the previous project being 1 minute and 15 seconds long. the project is also going to be film out side of school. the work will be harder because of what was previously stated before and because our group is half as small. The group is now just me and Paige, and Zeke and Eli are in their own group with Peter, so we will  have a lot more work between the two of us. For the project we have some room for creative expression. we could make our music video any genera, but it has to be school appropriate. The music video can be about someone lips siccing the words of the song or a story. We could film our project anywhere so we are probably going to film in a park. this project seems to be a new challenge, but we will overcome it.

For our music video we chose the song, My Girl by The Temptations. For our music video we plan to use dogs as the subject. This will be a different way to represent the song because the song is not perceived as a song about dogs. The dogs will represent 'my girl'. We will use many different dogs so the video is not to repetitive. We will include different shots and angles to show the dogs and owners. For example, when we show running scenes of the dogs it will be either a pan, tilt or a tracking shot. We will also have high, low and eye-level angles so every shot looks different. We will show a shot of one dog every time the song says 'my girl'. This will give the video structure that follows along with the music.

Our songs genre is 60's pop.this era is were pop over took rock as the most popular genre.
there is no real conventions in 60's pop camera angles, movements and types of shots because
Music videos were not invented yet. Although there is no music videos for 60's pop, we are going to break conventions by making the music video modern, while keeping the 60's pop ascetic in mind.

1.Costumes: The costumes that the actors are going to where are going to be casual park clothes, but not wearing any long sleeves or pants, just shorts, and tee-shirts.

2.Lighting: We will use natural lighting from the sun for our lighting. We preferably film at a time were you can not see the shadows of the camera man in the shots, like midday were the sun is directly above

3.Actors: The actors we will be using are going to be humans and dogs. We have a good selection of dogs for this project, that are all girls, which fit with the song

4.Music: There will be no music other than the actual song playing in our music video.

5.Props: The props we will be using are leaches, headphones, and other casual dog walking things.

6.Setting: The setting will be in a park. The park that we chose to film in is Harbor island, because it is very close to were we live

Edditing blog part 2

So today we actually started editing our film because we got laptops.  The school given laptops looked brand new, but did not act like they were. the laptops felt a little slow, but not as slow as the old desktop computers. When we filmed the shots, we filmed with the school provided camera and one of our group members phones. Transferring the film from our group members phone was a hassle though.  We had to transfer our group member's film by google docs because it was the only way. Google docs was acting wacky so it did not want to work. When it finally started to work, it was time to edit our film.

Editing, sounded easier than it actually was today, we had to use the worst software of any kind i had ever used, and it was pinnacle studios. Pinnacle studios is a free software given by the school, i think.
The software was the slowest thing ever. Even slower than my humongous turtle. Pinnacle studio takes so long to load up and do anything. having to use this software has been a pain and were are going to use it again sadly next project. Pinnacle studios problems made our editing process so much harder to deal with. We transferred the film to Pinnacle studios and all of the film from the phone didn't work so we had to transfer it again. after we transferred the film. After everything was on Pinnacle Studios.

When we actually started editing it wasn't that bad. Me being the biggest dummy and having 2 hours of sleep i didn't understand anything at all with the editing software. The members that actually were smart and having more than 2 hours of sleep Thought it wasn't that bad, besides the load time. We had cut the footage and it was edited good. next thing was that we had to make the ending slide look good. we had the nike logo and the slogan , but we kept arguing about the color. Half of our group thought that nike was orange, and the the other half thought it was red, guess what it was orange and i was wrong. the last part was to add the sound and that was easy. we use the razor tool to cut the audio off and removed the actual film part.

Editing blog

Today was the day to finish and edit our film, but it didn't go that way. On Friday was the day that we filmed most of our film and today we finished the filming. Between the four people of our group, none of us knew what we wanted to do. some people wanted to redo most of the shots, others wanted to keep the footage we already have. I thought that all of the footage we have so far on the track field was perfect, and ready to be edited into the commercial. One member of our group wanted to go and redo the stair case shot, which i agreed. So my group spent most of their time arguing about what we needed to do until , we all agreed on my idea. then having our idea, we went to filming. I was finally an actor and i didn't enjoy it.

When we started filming we had three people of our group taking being actors with all of us wearing Nike. we only needed one shot for that scene because the first shot was perfect. then two of our group did the last shot was the comfort short and the others helped peter. the two people who did the comfort shot were Eli and Paige who had it easy. they got to be indoors with A.C. and only needed 1 scene to be shot. While Paige and Eli had it easy, me and Zeke had it hard. Me and Zeke had to help peter do the rest of his shots and i was the camera man. peters tripod was not good so i had to do all of the shots holding it with my shaky hand.m Surprisingly i got most of the shots done with a steady hand but it was still annoying. the track field was very annoying and the sun was very bright so it created a big shadow that you could see in some shots.

When Eli and paige finished their job they decided to dump without me and zeke. although they were early, paige and eli couldn't  dump their film. they couldn't dump their  film because i had the old film that they were supposed to dump together. When zeke and I came back it was finally time to dump the footage. dumping the footage was a pain because the school computer is so slow. We decided to dump our footage on google docs because it was easy to share with others and can be used not on the school computers. We tried to dump our film on google docs but it was to slow, and we didn't have enough time. We finally decided to use paige's flash drive that saved our project. After dumping we were supposed to edit but pinnacle studios did not want to work for the whole class so we did not do it today

Filming blog

Today we started to film our Nike commercial. I am not photogenic at all and i don't like to be in film so i was lucky enough to be a actor. My job was to capture shots with the camera. I actually like working with the camera. The camera was a nice quality for a school bought supply, and same with the tripod. the camera had a zooming in and out feature that could zoom in so far and keep a nice resolution. managing the camera was the easy part compared to the other job that had to do with, which was managing the actors. I felt at time being a shepherd to these "sheep", but it wasn't that bad. i was just directing one of our group members on how to aim their foot to be in front of the camera for like 10 minutes, whitch was the only bad part.

To continue on shepherding the sheep, i had to keep on redirecting the rest of the group to stand in the right area because of lighting. When we filmed on the track it was a lighting nightmare. the florida sun was very very bright, rendering most of the track unfilmable. we had to film in this little corner of the track that was not being taken up by other students and was in the shade. when we filmed in the shade it was a pain because it was so dark. The only thing that saved our troubles was the lighting settings on the camera that fixed our problem. when we filmed on the staircase, there was no problem with lighting was good.

I am surprised that the school given ssd card's storage was not filled to the brim with with random shots. We have these random shots because i am kind of a perfectionist in art and same with this film. some scenes we totally redid with another actor but exactly the same. usually the first shot was way better than the rest, but we still continued until we think that it was the ultimate shot. making these ultimate shots the tripod came in handy. I was the only one in our group that could work the connection between camera and the tripod. Using that tripod was my first time using a tripod and it was simple to use. I was the only one that preferred to use the tripod in my group because my hands are so shaky.

Editing blog

Today we learned how to properly use a school camera ,and the editing software that we are going to use to edit our film. the editing  software is called pinnacle studios. Pinnacle studios is a Broward county school program that lets us edit film, make titles, add sounds, and add transitions to make our school films. the software has a nice complexity that lets us edit our films. There are tracks that let you layer your footage , like having a title card on layer 1 and music on layer 3. You can edit the footage to make it go slower, faster. you can also shorten the scenes to cut out unwanted or just not needed parts of the movie. Another feature you can do is to edit the sound in and out of scenes. By detaching sound from a scene, you can replace it with music, keep it and add music , or just remove all the sound completely. the last editing tool found in pinnacle studios in the editing software, is the effect editor. the effect editor is the area were you add the transitions and effects to enhance your        movie.
Too edit the footage, your gonna need footage to begin with. to get the footage, filming is required and that needs a camera. to use one of the schools cameras, you have too get one of the agreement forms and sign it with your whole group and give it to our teacher. with the agreement form you can use a handheld camera, SD card, SD card reader ,and a tripod. With these we can film our scenes. using the tripod we can keep the camera still, and do pans easily. When filming is done, it is time to transfer the clips that are on the SD card that is in the camera to the desktop on the computer. to transfer the clips, the SD card reader is needed to be used. using the SD card reader the SD now is on the computer. With the SD on the computer now you can import and export.
to start importing and exporting , we need to import the film we have on the SD to the desktop. its pretty simple, we just drag the file to the desktop. when we drag it on the desktop we need to make a new folder for the clips and film we do what we need to do on pinnacle studios and now were ready to save the film when we save the film , we save it to another folder. the film can be published on YouTube. To publish on you tube you just go through your email.

Planing Blog

Props- Some of the props we are going to use for our commercial are sports apparel, specifically Nike shoes. The actors in our commercial will have something that relates to sports, like a water bottle, basketball or they may be wearing headphones. The main subject of the commercial, the shoes, will be our main props. The exact shoes we will be using are Nike Air Force 1's, Nike Roshes, Nike Air Max's, Nike Jordan's, and Nike Slides.

Costumes- The actors will be dressed in clothes that go with the shoe that the actor is wearing. For example, when the actors are running they will be dressed in athletic clothes (as much Nike clothes as possible). The costumes play an important role when it comes to the commercial because we want the shoes to look the best they can so people will be provoked to buy them.

Schedule- Our next blog will be a storyboard of our commercial. the story boarding will be on October 14. The next objective is filming. the filming will be taking place on October 17 witch is a early release and the next following blue day, October 22. After filming we will edit our footage. the editing will be on October 23.

Location List-  We are filming in many different places. For our athletic shoes we are going to film at the track field to do a running scene. For our comfort shoes we are going to use the couch in the media studies classroom. For our stylish shoes we will be filming at the building 5 stairs, we will use the stairs by filming the actors walking.

Back-up plan- In case of an unfortunate scenario while filming, we have ideas ready to counter the situation. It is not unlikely that while filming rain will be present. That's why our idea to embrace the rain rather than hide from it will be beneficial. In case of rain, we plan to use puddles and rain to show how well our shoes hold up against any environment. Rain is not the only factor, we also have to bring into consideration the possibility of our team mate being absent. Thankfully, our commercial does not need 4 actors. We will work to play the part our teammate was supposed to.

Research Conventions and Codes

Before even thinking about the production of our Nike shoe commercial, many aspects that must go into play include:
·         Setting
·         Lighting
·         Products
·         Actors
·         Props
·         Music
·         Voice overs and other editing
·         Camera angles
Setting takes much consideration as it starts us on our way to our commercial. In our commercial, we think an outdoor environment would convey the idea that Nike shoes can be worn in many different environments and will hold up. We will also use an indoor setting to shoe other uses for Nike shoes, such as comfort.
Lighting for our commercial would mostly be natural outdoor lighting. When being filmed indoors a spotlight may be used to highlight the shoes and make them look better.
Products are the shoes that are being used in the film. We will use many different types of shoes like Nike Roche’s for running, Nike Slides for comfort and Air Force One’s for style.
Actors are the people who wear and highlight the shoes abilities.
Props are all the other items we will use in our commercial. For example, a runner might be holding a water bottle or someone playing basketball might be wearing headphones.
Music in the commercial gives the viewer a better understanding of what the shoe is made and designed for. We wouldn’t use a laid back and chill song when trying to show off some Air Jordan’s. In our commercial, we will be using a hyped song when showing off sports shoes, a chill song when showing slides, and laid back when showing comfort shoes.
Voice overs and other editing is important to our commercial so it’s not only up to viewer interpretation when seeing the shoe in action. A voice over will be able to explain the shoe or even some back round. Our commercial will have voice overs throughout to make it easier for our viewers. The tone of the voice over will change according to the purpose of each shoe.
Camera Angles will be seen changing multiple times throughout the commercial. Depending on the scene, a different camera angle will be implemented into the commercial. We will use angles such as close-ups of the shoes, and tracking shots of our actors in the shoe.

Intro

October 6th, 2019

Hi , my names Roscoe and this is my first year of high school. I don't know what i want to do in life like a lot of other people . i like to be lazy watch movies, cook, play video games, make people laugh and other shenanigans. One thing that is interesting to me is creating something, like a painting that takes time and effort and the finally product is just gives a  satisfying feeling. another thing is comedy. I don't know why , making people laugh is  just so compelling, may be its the smile or just the more happier they get.

I'm a little different then other  people in the head. I don't know if i hit my head when i was a baby or i was just messed up from the beginning, but i know that  i am just very "special". My brain acts a lot different then others. I probably have like 8000 plus songs from the car radio , movies and video games memorized  but out of those 8000 songs i memorized, i probably hate, don't like , or really don't care about is probably like 7000. Even though i can memorize all those songs, i have a hard time memorizing steps in math .

High school so far is OK. I have a lot of friends from middle school that went to the same school as me , so the friend part and being lonely at lunch was never a problem. the new people that i have met are pretty cool. the easiest way to make friends this year is to make a joke about the teacher because that is one of the most relatable type of jokes to tell to a classmate. on the other hand , my classes are ok. all of my classes are easy , besides math. i am 2 grades ahead of were i'm supposed to be and its really hard, but i can do it. my media studies class is probably my favorite class because i love movies and the class is very fun.
